In 2019, Chinese New Year celebrates the Earth Pig. For this special occasion, Oscar® is pleased to present its new packaging! Find out more about this year’s celebrations…
Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important event for all Asian communities around the world. While 2018 celebrated the Dog, 2019 will be the Year of the Pig starting from February 5, 2019 and lasting to January 24th, 2020.
The most important part of Chinese New Year holiday is the family reunion: everyone should come back home to celebrate and share the New Year’s Eve dinner. The main activities include putting up red decorations, eating dinner with family, firecrackers and fireworks, giving red envelopes with money in and other gifts.
The day before, cleaning the house is one a long Chinese New Year tradition: ground and walls have to be cleaned to drive the old things and the bad luck away from the house. A great way to get ready for a new start!
The legend says, a long time ago, there was a monster called Nian who would come down from the mountains to hunt people at the end of every year. Apparently, one of the monster’s secret was revealed: he was scared of the color red. That’s how the red decorations started, to scare him away.
